This painting ‘With Gratitude’ is part of the Flowers For Mum series. The paintings were inspired by flowers the artist had bought for her mother whilst visting the nursing home where she was living with dementia. Delicate tissue paper was used to cover the canvas during the artistic process, allowing wrinkles of the paper to appear. The loosely hand-drawn flowers and neutral colour palette have a timeless quality. The painting has been varnished with cold wax to give a buttery finish to the canvas surface. Flowers For Mum explores the profound truth that it is simple things in life that matter, the beauty to be found in sacrifice, and the fragility of life.
